North Smithfield - Linda L. (Bennett) Ziegler, 78, of North Smithfield, formerly of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the loving wife of Warren F. "Chip" Ziegler, Jr., with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Bronxville, N.Y. and raised in Great Neck, N.Y., Linda was the daughter of the late Edmund and Margaret (Goudie) Bennett. She was a resident of Cumberland for many years before moving to North Smithfield almost six years ago.
Linda was a graduate of Dean Jr. College, where her life changed forever after meeting and falling in love with Chip. She dedicated much of her professional life to the medical field, working as a medical secretary at Fogarty Hospital and later in private practice before retiring.
Linda's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She cherished the simple traditions that brought everyone together, especially the decades of summer vacations spent together in Maine. Linda was a long-time member of the Abbott Run Valley Swim and Tennis Club, where she created a lifetime of memories with her children and friends. She loved getting together with friends, and playing cards and mahjong. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Woonsocket Bowling League.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Schmidlin of Hopkinton, MA. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Kristine Fritts, whose memory she held close to her heart. She leaves behind her sister, Sue Lindauer and her husband Fred of Wallingford, CT; her sister-in-law Caroline Brooks and her husband William of West Boylston, MA; and her five beloved grandchildren, Cameron and Kacey Fritts, and Peyton, Cole and Emery Schmidlin. She is also survived by her niece and nephews and other loving family members.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, February 20 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Funeral service and burial will be private. In honor of her daughter Kris' courageous battle with cancer, contributions may be made in Linda's memory to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7312, Warwick, RI 02887.
